Highlights from the WCSS 2010 Conference
You are invited to the joint Wisconsin Council for the Social Studies (WCSS) and International Education (IEC) Annual Conference, March 15 – 16, 2010 at the Marriott West in Madison, Wisconsin. The WCSS and the IEC have joined forces to enhance the diversity of session topics and participants. Built around the theme of "Today's Students, Tomorrow's Globel Citizen", the conference offers stimulating sessions, thought-provoking keynote speakers, and two full days that focus on teaching social studies and international/global education.
For WCSS, the partnership with IEC has strengthened the international and global dimensions of the conference. For the IEC, the partnership assures access to not only highly qualified teachers but the breadth of the social studies curriculum. Workshops seek to actively engage K-12 educators in curriculum development and instructional improvement especially in international and global education. Several strands of the conference sessions will address the Wisconsin Standards for Teacher Development and Licensure (PI34) and the pedagogical knowledge and skills for effective teaching. Finally, the conference will include sessions and workshops in the sciences, arts, and humanities that are linked to the social studies and international/global education.
The conference seeks presentation proposals from teachers and other educators that will promote curriculum changes, creative lesson plan development, and improvement in instructional practices. Registration includes high quality keynote and plenary speakers, continental breakfasts, plated lunches, refreshments, free parking, exhibits, membership in the WCSS, and an opportunity to network with professional colleagues and friends (Register early by February 15th).
The 2010 conference will be held Monday & Tuesday, March 15 – 16, at the Marriott–Madison West Hotel, 1313 John Q. Hammonds Dr., Middleton, Wis. Watch this site for future updates.
