SENIOR INDIVIDUAL EXHIBITS – WISCONSIN STUDENT TAKES FIRST! If you didn't get a chance to check out the national contest blog from this year, you missed some big news. In addition to a fantastic group of Wisconsin students and a ton of fun at the competition, Cody Haro of Holmen took first place for his senior individual exhibit about the Abraham Lincoln Battalion. In a separate competition at the contest, Cody also won a scholarship to the University of Minnesota – Minneapolis . You can read more about it on the blog –

WISCONSIN BLUE BOOKS ONLINE "One of the most used reference books about the Badger State , the Wisconsin Blue Book is a biennial compilation of facts and figures pertaining to the government, people, industry, lifestyle and history of the State of Wisconsin . Now, this important and endlessly interesting series is available online at http://digital.library.wisc.edu/1711.dl/WI.WIBlueBks. With generous support and funding from the University of Wisconsin System and UW Libraries, the University of Wisconsin Digital Collections Center has digitized 85 volumes that span the years 1853-2003 and total over 56,000 pages."

WISCONSIN PEOPLE & IDEAS Wisconsin History Day students from 2006 are featured in this article in Wisconsin People & Ideas, the summer 2007 publication from the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters. If you'd like to get a better idea about National History Day or learn more about some History Day students in the state, check it out!

WEB SITE CATEGORY Remember the web site category will be official in the upcoming school year. This means that students who compete in the web site category will finally have an opportunity to attend the national contest. This is a great opportunity for technology savvy students to become engaged with history.

The rules for this category will be very similar to the test rules Wisconsin has already been using, however, there is one important change for you to note. Individuals and groups are eligible to create web sites, however, they will compete in a "combined category." This means that there will be "junior web sites" and "senior web sites" with individual and group entries competing against each other in each division. Once participation in the category increases, the national office plans to split the categories into group and individual.

If you have questions or comments about the National History Day in Wisconsin program, please do not hesitate to contact state coordinator Sarah Clement at sarah.clement@wisconsinhistory.org or (608) 264-6487. We enjoy hearing from you!
